What to Look For in a Tradesmen?

Picture
Looking for a tradesman is a hard task for almost everyone.  Everyone has a certain standard that they are looking for.  It’s always a different formula for a lot of people.  Some look for an amateur who can offer a low rate while some look for professionals who can get the job done in the shortest time possible.

However, choosing the right tradesman for a specific job with a set of guidelines could make the search easier.  Remember that it is the tradesman that will undertake a job and no one would like a sloppy job done and have to pay for it in the end.  Here are some of the qualities to look for when choosing a tradie:

1.       Experience

The experience of the tradesman is one of the important things to look for.  It is through experience that the abilities and skills of a tradesman are polished thoroughly.  For example, installing a home theatre system with wires going through the roof and down the sides of the wall can be a tricky job. A novice could spend the day trying to find the right cables – and you’ll pay for it.

2.       Tools

Tools make it possible for the tradesman to accomplish the job.  There are those who have modern tools that make the task easier and faster to accomplish.  Sometimes, the lack of tools greatly affects the performance of the task which causes inconvenience.

3.       Rate

Of course, the rates offered by the tradesman must be reasonable.  It must be commensurate to the job required of him to do.  A lot of tradesmen charge high rates because of their skills, tools and techniques.

4.       Remarks

It is good to look for a tradesman that has good recommendations from his previous clients.  The client’s recommendations are often the best way to see if the tradesman can deliver good results.

5.       Workmanship

In connection with the remarks from previous clients, if possible, it is best to observe the output of the tradesman.  For example, if the tradesman is a gardener, try to look for the gardens he’s worked with.  If the eye for detail meets the standards, then he is a good choice.

It pays to be careful when selecting a tradesman.  Make sure that the chosen tradesman can deliver a good job and can give reasonable rates for the task.  Don’t rely on agencies and companies that advertise too much.  Research and read up.  There are free sites that could provide listings of tradesman and provide comprehensive feedback on their previous projects.
